AOPA Business Information

The Remuneration Committee is an internal Committee to determine the level of Staff Salaries, Pensions, Bonuses and any increases.

Each of the other Committees and Working Groups have specific terms of reference. Each are designed to provide Members with a means to be involved with AOPA.

Committees also provide a platform to invite non-member guests to meetings, e.g. CAA Staff, Aircraft Maintainers , where their presence will be beneficial.

Membership of the Executive Committee is by Invitation from the Chairman, and normally drawn from members of the Committees and Working Groups who have displayed their commitment to AOPA. All Board Members are also members of the Executive Committee. Executive Committee members may attend Board Meetings but cannot vote.

All other Committees and Working Groups are open to AOPA Members on request or by invitation.

As well as BLAC Ltd, subsidiary companies have been set up :

AOPA Limited; this is currently a dormant company set up to protect the AOPA name.

AOPA (UK) Ltd; was most recently used to operate the Pilot Store London, giving full visibility of profit and loss while limiting liability to BLAC Ltd. The BLAC Board of Directors determined to close down the Pilot Store London on 1 April 2019 and close AOPA (UK) Ltd. from 31 March 2020.

AOPA UK is a trading name of British Light Aviation Centre Ltd, a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee.

All Members can help by raising awareness of AOPA UK with fellow pilots who are not members, and encourage them to join as they are the majority yet benefit from the lobbying work done by AOPA UK and funded by the minority of pilots who are members.

Members have a long tradition of volunteering to help AOPA, giving their time freely. Some of these volunteers join the Board of Management of the British Light Aviation Centre Limited, a not for profit organisation limited by guarantee and trading as Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association UK.

A process for inducting volunteers and nominating Directors outside an AGM has been approved by the Board of Management and can be found here.  The main purposes behind this process are:

1) To allow time for the nominee and the Board of Management to establish a relationship and see that it works for all parties.

2) To protect confidential and commercially sensitive information.

The BLAC Ltd Articles allow the following process to nominate a Director at AGM's:

"Any member wishing to elect another member to the Board of Management must provide notice in writing or email to the AOPA office at least 10 days in advance. A statement of willingness to serve will be expected from the proposed member together with appropriate personal details. Proxy voting is permitted, either by nominating in writing or by email a member who will be present at the AGM as proxy, or by nominating the Chairman as proxy."

The Articles set a minimum of 8 Directors and a maximum of 12.
